To acquire a state credential a test called the Hawaii Quality Assurance System, or HQAS, as well as pass an interpreter ethics test within 6 months of acquiring the Hawaii State Sign Language Interpreter Credential. There are 6 tiers of certification the highest requires an RID SC:L, the pay scale is adjusted by certification as well.

Tier 6 run on an hourly fee of 55$

Tier 5 50$ an hour

Tier 4 45$ an hour

Tier 3 40$ an hour

Only ONE interpreter is labeled at a level 6 certified master.
